James immediately fell silent, wondering how Abigail had only managed to consider murder as a possible danger. Had it not occurred to her that something else "dangerous" could happen when a man and a woman were alone together? He immediately cleared his throat, then stepped out of the car. He retrieved the beer and snacks from the trunk before returning to the front. He then opened a bag of snacks and handed it to Abigail, saying, "You shouldn't drink on an empty stomach." Having spent considerable time with James, Abigail had become familiar with his particular way of showing concern. She took the bag of snacks, ate a piece, then picked up a piece of potato chip to feed James. "I'll pass," James said, turning his face away. He then popped open a beer and gave it to Abigail before opening one for himself shortly after. Abigail was readying herself for a celebratory toast with James, which could be considered a customary part of any celebration. Yet, before she could even raise her
