A little while later, Grace, still holding Cliff, joined them. It was not until Juniper came to call them that everyone finally moved to the dining room.
Since neither Grace nor Hazel had eaten lunch, the two of them had no time for conversation at the table—they were too busy scarfing down their food. Abigail, too, focused on eating, half because she was still fuming at James for being clueless, and half because she naturally had a big appetite.
Peter loved watching the three girls eat heartily. As he grew older, he found comfort in seeing people enjoy their food.
If someone ever brought home a woman who took tiny bites, chewed forever, and put her fork down after two bites, Peter would not even spare a second glance at her. He might even think the woman did not know how to enjoy life itself.
