Chapter 44
The skies grew dark. I couldn't see any houses or vehicles. There were no lights around.
It was the full moon, and the moonlight shone on the road, making it almost as light as daytime.
I could even see a deer in the forest near the road, scared by the sound of the car and running away.
The car turned into a fork in the road. The road became narrow, and the trees on both sides of the road became taller and thicker. They blocked most of the moonlights, leaving only the headlights illuminating the road ahead.
In the beginning, I widened my eyes and looked around carefully, trying to remember the road we had passed. But there were only trees and no specific signs. Soon, I gave up. I had completely lost directions and had no idea where we were going.
The car drove for almost a day before it finally stopped.
"Have we arrived?" I asked, looking out through the car window. There were no lights or houses nearby.
