Chapter 6

Serena’s POV Catherine looked at me and Tyler alternately. Confusion was written on her face until she suddenly gasped and cupped her mouth as if she realized something. Her eyes were widening as she slowly turned to me with a shocked expression on her face. As if finally realized that I was Tyler's wife. “Are you saying I misunderstand everything? I saw it, Serena! You even made a child kneel!” I balled my fists. “Did I tell them to kneel? Did you hear me say it?” Catherine cleared her throat nervously. “I-I’m sorry…I have no intention of creating a mess. I just…I just want my son to get better. I don’t want his future ruined… I’m sorry…” I turned to her again as my eyes remained cold and sharp. “I told you I’m not the one who can help you—” “I recommended you to her because I know you can help Andy, Serena! But what did you do? You took this personally and you coldly pushed them away! You are so cruel!” I stared at him. He’s been disappointing me ever since our marriage started falling apart. He judged me based on what he saw. He accused me without hearing my reasons. I don’t know what to do. My heart keeps on clenching in anger and pain. I want to hurt him and shout at him for doing this to me. He literally sided with his mistress and made me the evil one. Would he do this to Millie too? Will he judge her without thinking about how it would hurt her? Is this how he wants us to end? He took a single step closer as he clenched his jaw and his eyes sharply bore at me. “Are you jealous, Serena? Is that why you’re pushing them away cold-heartedly? Are you jealous that’s why you don’t have the heart to pity the child who needs you? How immature!” I met his eyes with intensified anger. My chest felt so heavy again. Immature? That's how he thought of me? He didn’t even understand the situation and yet he’d already picking sides. Who's the immature one here?! Or maybe, he just didn't care. He didn't care if I had reasons for not accepting the child as my patient, and neither did he care if it would bring trouble to my career. How stupid I was to have a glimmer of hope that he would listen to me if I tried to explain. He always refused to listen to me, didn't he? The thin string of patience I have for him is starting to let go. One more trigger and I’ll explode. I don’t care anymore. To hell with my stupid feelings for him, I will not let Tyler do this to me anymore. “Jealous?” I asked sarcastically. “Do you really think I’d get jealous of someone who doesn’t even reach half of my level? I’m not like that, Tyler. Besides, I’m tired of being with you. I no longer need you. You can’t even satisfy me anymore so why would I get jealous?” He balled his trembling fists. I could see in his eyes that he was about to explode in anger but I ignored it. I took a single step forward and leaned to his ear. “I’ll divorce you, Tyler. With or without your permission.” I glanced at Catherine one last time before I walked past them coldly. I lifted my chin as I walked away with pride. However, tears started rolling down my cheeks when I got inside my car. He was so shameless to come here with his mistress and son. And what? He recommended me? To his mistress? Screw him! I don’t need his recommendation! *** “Millie, your mommy’s coming home any minute from now. You should brush your teeth now, darling.” A smile crept on my lips as soon as I entered the house. Maria was convincing Millie to brush her teeth while the child was just sitting on the couch and watching television. My smile immediately faded after I remembered what happened in the hospital today. I’ve decided. I’ll push for the divorce no matter how hard he resists. I won’t allow him to break my daughter’s heart completely. Yes! He loves Millie but that’s not enough. I want him to be with us wholeheartedly. I won’t settle for what he can give because it’s not enough. It will never be enough especially now that I learned he has a child with another woman. He will never be ours wholly. “Mommy!” Millie felt my presence. I immediately went to her and sat beside her. I caressed her hair and glanced at her injured arm. “Does your arm still hurt so much?” She shook her head. She’s smiling sweetly and I know she’s completely over what she saw yesterday. I sighed while staring at her beautiful face. How can I tell her that I’m divorcing her father? How can I explain to her that soon we’ll move out and we’ll leave her father here? “Sweetie…” She looked up at me and smiled. “Mommy, Daddy gave me a toy!” “A toy?” That’s why she looked very happy today. She showed me the toy her father gave her and my expression hardened after I saw a familiar stuffed toy she was hugging. Same as what I saw with Andy, Catherine’s son. I balled my fists as Millie continued showing off her new toy to me. She looked so happy but I was not. I can’t believe Tyler gave Millie the same toy he gave to his illegitimate son. He’s heartless. He’s cruel. He’s stupid. I want to grab the toy from Millie, break it, and burn it in front of Tyler but that would end up hurting my daughter. Once again, I endured the pain and disappointment, but not the situation. I won’t endure this loveless marriage anymore. This is unfair! He’s married to me so he shouldn’t do this to his daughter! If he can do this now, what more soon? I'd bet he can even deny his daughter if it will protect his illegitimate son. With anger, I fished out my phone and dialed my private investigator’s number. [Hello, Mrs. Walter?] I gritted my teeth. “Set me an appointment with Attorney Damon del Real tomorrow.” Tyler’s stupidity has to end and I will end it in my own way. I don’t care if he continues to refuse and resist. He’s starting to damage my daughter’s feelings and I will not allow it.
