Chapter 4

Lauren was the only temporary employee here. It was only natural that she would be left with the chores of serving tea, cleaning and running errands. As soon as the meeting was finished, Anna sent her to the general manager's office to pick up a document. The general manager's office was located on the top floor of the building, separate from the president's office. Anna explained that the farthest door from the east of the elevator is where the general manager's office was. Lauren was a person with a bad sense of direction, and she couldn't tell south, east, and north sides of the floor at all. She was a fool who could only remember the directions when she leaves her home. The corridor was extremely quiet, and there was nobody to ask. She couldn't walk around, and she can't go back to ask Anna again. She was in trouble. Fortunately, at this moment, a door was opened on one side of the corridor, and a man in a suit walked out. She hurriedly stepped forward and asked, "Excuse me, sir, do you know where the general manager's office is?" The man walked hurriedly with the information in his hand, without listening to her question at all, he pointed his finger in the direction behind him. Lauren finally got some help and she said gleefully, "Thank you!" She knocked twice on the African pear wood door, she did not carefully distinguish whether the words on the door panel were the general manager's office or the president's office. She pushed the door and entered. "Good Morning, Manager Li asked me to—" Several people who were signing a contract turned their heads and looked at her at the same time. One of them had sharp eyes. Lauren didn't remember how she left the president's office, she only remembered apologizing over and over again. She was afraid that she had interrupted an important business contract, she could never make up for the losses if the contract was cancelled. Finally, Anna was also called up. "Lauren, are you an idiot? You have been working for a few years, how can you make a mistake like this? Can't you see the words written on the door panel? Do you still know how to read Chinese?" Lauren lowered her head in embarrassment. This was the first time she had been scolded by her boss. She couldn't even speak a little to defend herself. While she was being scolded, a several men in suits and leather shoes at the end of the corridor suddenly walked out. Terrence, who was walking in front, put one hand in his pocket, his eyes were level, his footsteps were firm, and he did not stop because of the people in the corridor. Followed by his special assistant, Donny Ye, he glanced at Lauren who was looking down in shame. He was wondering whether he has seen this woman before, he remembered seeing her on Terrence's cell phone, but he was not very sure. Anna continued to berate her, and she didn't hold back even with the president approaching. "Lauren, it's either I didn't tell you clearly, or you didn't find it. Seriously, do you even know left from right?" His figure got closer and closer, finally he passed by Lauren. Lauren's eyes were red in despair, and she lowered her head to prevent him from seeing her embarrassment. Even so, she could feel the powerful aura on his body as he passed by. His spotless black leather shoes stepped on the high-quality velvet carpet, his footsteps were audible, and every time she heard it, it was like her own heart was being stepped on. ... It was six o'clock in the evening, at a coffee shop... "He didn't recognize you? No way, you two slept together for five years. That is too cruel." In the cafe, Jenny Qiao, her best friend, tried to sympathize with her. "This isn't the first time you have heard about his ruthlessness," Lauren shrugged, as if she was at ease about his behavior. When he forced her to abort the child in her stomach, she had lost all hope for him. In the past few years, she has been working in order to support her family. She skipped meals and completely ignored the superficial things like makeup and fancy clothes. She neglected herself so much, it got to the point where she couldn't recognize herself sometimes. Five years have passed since then. It was not a long or short time, but it was just enough to forget a person. Jenny is Lauren's friend for many years. She knew everything about her feelings. Sometimes she often wondered if she could find another woman in this world who was as stupid and persistent as Lauren. "Seriously, if you were given another chance, if you had known that your cousin liked Terrence as well, would you still love him?" "There are no ifs in the world," Lauren didn't want to answer her question. "Just humor me this once. If there was an if, would you still fall in love with him?" Jenny asked. Lauren stirred her coffee. "Who knows, when he showed up, I couldn't really stop myself." Jenny wanted to open her head to see if there was a loose screw in it, but she held back and decided not to ask anymore. "By the way, I know someone who needs a part-timer. You can start working on Friday, if you want it." Lauren smiled happily. "Thank you." Jenny was about to complain about her politeness, but before she could start, Lauren's cell phone rang on the table. It was her mother, Melanie Dong. Lauren hushed Jenny and answered the phone. "Lauren, why haven't you come back? Did you meet the man I set you up with?"
