Chapter 1

On a dark summer night, heavy rain was falling down. On the rooftop of the Yijue Hotel, a man was holding a woman, they were slowly retreating towards the edge of the building. "Don't come any closer!" the man roared in the rain, his expression almost brazen. Lauren Xu felt like the sky was spinning, and the wind kept blowing on her face. Despite the harsh winds, Lauren could still feel the man's breath on her head, and his sturdy arms tightly strangling her neck. Every time he took a step back, there was a burst of horrified screams from below. She knew why they were afraid, a hostage situation at the top of a high building was enough to make anyone panic. The expressions on their faces varied, some looked at her with sympathy, others with pity. Compared to their shock and fear, she was particularly calm. She wasn't crying and she wasn't trying to break free either. "He is probably abroad with his new girlfriend. He won't care even if you do this. William, listen to me and let me go. He will not come for me." William Zhou shook his head. "Bitch, shut up! Just shut up! He will come. He has to!" Several policemen tried to calm him down, "William, calm down, you can always start a new business. You have everything you could need, but if you jump right now there will be no hope, so just calm—" William Zhou shook his head and shouted, "I don't have anything anymore. I'm not listening to you, so just call Terrence Gu right now!" After speaking, he took a step back to threaten the policemen, he was smiling in anticipation. Hearing the panicked cries from below, William became even more motivated, dragging Lauren back. The rain continued to fall, it was as cold as this dark, endless night. Lauren closed her eyes, accepting her fate, waiting for death to finally take her. Suddenly, one of the policemen exclaimed, "Mr. Gu, thank god you're here!" He was holding a black umbrella, the lights were dim, and he couldn't see his face clearly. Everyone gave way to let the man approach. William finally saw the incoming person clearly, and he laughed madly. His voice was full of revenge, "Terrence Gu, because of you, my wife took my children and left me. Now you're going to feel what I feel." The man bowed his head for a few seconds to light a cigarette. The next second, the smoke filled his eyes. "Lauren, didn't I tell you to abort it? If you aborted it earlier, then you wouldn't be here." William's expression turned sour as he didn't expect these words at all. "Terrence, you're fucking crazy!" William took another step back. At this moment, there was nowhere left to go but down. The wind blew on Lauren's face, she was hurt by his words, but there were no tears in her eyes. The man came closer again, and the graceful voice of a cello slowly echoed in the air, "I still have twenty minutes." William was taken aback, he was puzzled. The man smiled and casually played with the wedding ring on his left ring finger. "My plane still has twenty minutes until it takes off. If you want to jump, please hurry up, or I will be late for my flight." At this time everyone was quiet, only the silent darkness of the night surrounded everything. Lauren's heart ached with an indescribable pain. William shouted, "Stop fucking with me! I can kill your wife and your kid right now. How can you even say that?" Lauren looked at the gloomy face through the rain, she knew the answer to the question, but she asked anyway, "Terrence, do you... Have you ever loved me for even a second?" "No." His answer was simple and neat. "Well, William, did you hear that? He never loved me at all." The wind howled. Their weightless bodies fell rapidly and then everything was calm. Five years later... The summer in Yuncheng was humid and rainy. The foggy mist on the window pane blurs the already gloomy daylight into a more bleak color. Because she didn't sleep well the night before, Lauren was gloriously late the next morning. After punching her time card she was immediately called by her manager. "Manager Sun, you called for me?" Manager Sun nodded with a smile, pointed his finger at the chair opposite his desk. "Sit down." Lauren was called to talk to the manager alone for the first time, and she was a little nervous. "You have heard of Gu's Media Group, right?" Manager Sun asked straightforwardly. She froze for a few seconds before answering, "I know about it, from the business evaluation case that Linda Xiao was talking about." She also knows that Terrence was now the CEO of the Gu Group. The Gu Group, under his leadership, became a business giant in Yuncheng, with its news coverage reaching seventy-eight percent of the entire city. Terrence himself became a business wizard in Yuncheng in recent years. He is one of the city's richest men, known for his unique business strategies. But who would have thought that Lauren had a five-year marriage with this acclaimed man.
