Chapter 18 The Man That Night Was Allen
‘$30,000!? Where did the money come from? Who gave it to me?’
While Madison was wondering where the money came from, Hendrick called her.
“Maddy, did you receive the money?”
“What? Wait, Grandpa, you’re the one who sent me the money?” asked Madison, her voice thick with disbelief.
“Yeah, it’s me. Why didn’t you tell me that you need money? If Tanner hadn’t gone out and heard that you needed money, I wouldn't have learned that my granddaughter-in-law actually needed to borrow money from others.”
“No… No, you misunderstood, Grandpa. I didn’t borrow money from other people. I… I was just looking for investors,” explained Madison. She could not let Hendrick suspect anything.
“Looking for investors? Then you shouldn’t go look for other people. If you want to start a business, you should come to me first. Anyway, no matter what you’re going to do, I’ll support you. Take this $30,000 and go do whatever you want.”
“I… I can’t do that. I can’t take your money. I’ll send the money back to you now…”
“If you don’t want to take my money, then I’ll call Allen and ask how he’s taking care of his wife! How can he not give you a black card and allow you to go around borrowing money from other people? I want to ask him if he even knows how to love his wife!”
Madison’s heart jumped into her throat when she heard what Hendrick said.
She could by no means let Allen know about what she was doing.
The cold and disdainful gaze Allen had given her before leaving today still lingered in her mind, constantly pricking at her nerves.
She could not let him look down on her again.
“No… Grandpa, please don’t call Allen. I… I’ll take the money… Don’t disturb him while he’s working.”
In the end, Madison took the money from Hendrick. However, she insisted that she was just borrowing the money from him and would pay it back in installments after she got paid.
Hendrick had no other choice but to accept it and promised her that he would help her to keep the secret.

Meanwhile, at the nursing home…
The smile on Hendrick’s face disappeared after he hung up the call.
“Tanner,” he called out to his most loyal subordinate.
“Are you sure you saw Maddy begging for money from someone instead of talking business with them?” asked Hendrick.
In fact, Hendrick had lied to Madison. This was because Tanner had seen her getting thrown out of a company today. It was just that he did not want to make things hard for her, so he did not explicitly mention it over the phone.
“Yes. I saw her getting kicked out of that construction company today. When I asked the person in charge of the company, they said she was there to borrow money.”
“Hmph!” Hendrick smacked the bed hard.
“I knew it! I knew Allen was lying to me! He married Maddy, but he couldn’t even give her $30,000! I told him to take care of her, and this is how he does it!”
“I don’t think Mr. Whitlock would do something like that,” Tanner said after a short while of hesitation.
“Hmph! No one knows him better than I do. He’s a monster to those who go against him. He might even use those mind tricks of his against me. I have to take care of Maddy. If I can’t do it, I won’t be at peace when I die. Come closer, Tanner. This is my plan…”
Hendrick called Tanner to his side and told him his plan.

Enduring the pain, Madison brought the money to the Peterson mansion.
Not only had Vivian demanded $30,000 from her, but she also wanted them in cash.
After hanging up the call, she dragged her leg to the bank and barely managed to withdraw money before the bank closed.
Outside of the garden of the Peterson mansion, Madison saw Vivian, who was waiting for her.
When Vivian saw Madison appear with her sprained leg and the wound on her forehead, she raised her eyebrows disdainfully.
“Hah, luckily, you came at 5:50 p.m. You wouldn't have gotten your ring back if you were ten minutes late.”
Madison clenched her fists tightly and forced herself to calm down. “Stop the nonsense. Where’s the ring?”
“Here it is.” Vivian pulled the ring out of the pocket of her shirt.
It was an obsidian ring with many sparkling diamonds set on top. It was clearly a ring for men.
Madison took a step forward to take it, but Vivian took a step back.
“Hold on for a second. Where is the money? You need to show me the money first. Or else I won’t give the ring back to you.”
Madison took a deep breath and unzipped the zipper on the bag in her hand.
“Here it is, $30,000. Give me the ring first, and I’ll give you the money.”
Vivian did not trust her, and Madison did not trust Vivian, either.
She would not give her the money unless Vivian gave her the ring.
Apparently, Vivian knew what Madison was thinking, but it did not tick her off.
With a smile on her face, Vivian counted the money inside the bag that Madison was holding.
There were thirty bundles of brand-new banknotes, each containing $1,000. It had clearly been withdrawn from the bank.
She had even prepared a counterfeit banknote detection pen. After ascertaining that all of the money was real and there were not any papers in it, a sarcastic smile appeared on Vivian’s face.
“Not bad, Madison. I didn’t expect you to get $30,000 ready in just two days. How many men did you sleep with to get this money? Judging by your appearance, you must have had a lot of fun in the past two days, right? Tsk, tsk… You were one of the Campbells, but who would have thought that you would, one day, become a toy of men on the bed? If Mr. Campbell finds out what you did, he will probably hate you even more.”
“Enough talking. Give me the ring, and you can have the money.”
Madison knew that Vivian was provoking her. However, her brain was swimming, and she couldn't argue with her now.
She just wanted to get her thing back before she fainted.
Vivian rolled her eyes when Madison did not fall for her tricks and looked at Madison with displeasure. Suddenly, something crossed her mind, and she gave the ring back to Madison in the end.
“Hmph, take it and give me the money.”
Madison gave her the money, and Vivian returned the ring. Madison felt relieved when she finally got the ring back.
She put the ring through the necklace around her neck and wore it.
This time, she would never lose this ring again.
Vivian felt pleased when she received the money. She looked up and sneered coldly when she saw how careful Madison was with the ring.
‘Hah, what a stupid woman! That person has already sent his subordinates to my house, and I already know this ring's real owner.’
She was certain that there was nothing Madison could do, even if she took the ring back.
After all, Madison couldn't come across someone like Allen in her entire life, let alone knowing that the man who had slept with her was Allen!
