Chapter 90

HAVEN There's nothing as bitter as the taste of betrayal. My shoes slap against the tarmac as I try to get as far away from Aamon as possible. Tears continue cascading down my cheeks but I don't bother wiping them. My vision is blurry and my chest and eyes burn. Burning from the cracks of pain slicing through me. I don’t think anyone can completely explain the deep bruising feeling of that word itself. The gaping hole that throbs in your chest right where your trust used to be. Until you feel like it will never be mended again. When someone betrays you, they figuratively tear out the trust you gave them, so viciously that there’s surface damage way deeper than one can heal, and it threatens to permanently settle there. My heart yearns to trust him since it already belongs to him, but my mind is smart enough to tell me not to. There are gaping dark holes of despair there now, any part I want to try and maybe cut him some slack, the small amount of trust trying to push in ends up leaking
