Chapter Thirty-Two - Fletcher
I was floating on Cloud 9 the next morning when I walked to my office to go through my mail. I’d neglected it for over a week and I needed to pretend at least that I cared about it.
Sinking into my leather chair, I plucked through credit card offers and bills until I landed on an envelope with a gold seal on the back.
I opened it and pulled out a black invitation with gold writing. The invitation was to a masquerade ball hosted by the local Donovan Foundation, which was owned by a friend from high school.
I flipped it through my fingertips. I usually donated money and spared myself the humiliation of dressing up and being forced to dance. Dancing wasn't my thing.
“What’s that?”
I looked over the top of the invitation at Ava standing in my button-down shirt, her hair down her shoulders and a cup of coffee in her hands.
She looked beautiful.
I’d never seen or tasted anything so sweet in my entire life. The slight blush on her cheeks lit a fire underneath my skin.
“An invitation,”
