Chapter Eleven - Ava
Dinner was just as awkward as lunch. As if, we needed to add to the tension residing between us. Fletcher looked at his phone most of dinner while I attempted to ignore mine.
Fletcher’s gaze shifted toward my phone vibrating on the table. “Aren’t you going to answer that?”
I took the last bite of my steak which was cooked perfectly and shook my head. “Not ready to speak to my sister yet.”
Fletcher shrugged as if it didn’t matter to him either way.
Lucinda poked her head out of the doorway. “Is everything okay?” she asked.
What a loaded question. The food was amazing, but I wouldn’t say the situation was anywhere near okay.
“We’re fine, Lucinda,” Fletcher said, never looking away from his phone.
“The food was amazing,” I said.
She nodded slightly and disappeared through the door. I almost preferred her to stay and gawk at our awkwardness rather than leave me alone with him.
Fletcher stood swiftly and eyed my finished plate. “Lucinda will take care of the kitchen.”
