Considering that Harvey and Shelly had just returned to Merchant City the day before, it was obvious who Jim wanted to perform this DNA test on. As soon as he thought of this, the butler quickly arranged for a man to keep an eye on the assistant. After that, he brought the tray into the study as though none of this had happened.
