The sky was cloudy with patches of drizzle as the river waters creased under the pitter-patter of the rain. Tong City was eerily reminiscent of Wu City, where snowfall and rainfall were plentiful and the atmosphere tended to be rather humid.
Dixon said to me, "Caroline, you claimed to love Lance."
"Yes, I love Lance, so your clinginess is pretty bothersome."
Then he admonished me. "Shut up, Caroline."
I said with a sneer, "Why? I can't mention Lance? I can't proclaim my love for him? The Gregg family climbed to its current standing using the Shaw family as a stepping stone, so who do you think you're indebted to? You got what you wanted because you were a fraud. You've ruined and disregarded a love that did not belong to you, so what right do you have to come and demand that I remarry you?"
I was so focused on ditching a bother like him that my brain was no longer processing the words spilling out of my mouth.
