Luck had not been on my side recently as I had encountered attacks one after another. I had suffered slaps and beatings, not to mention being slashed by a knife. Now, I would have been splashed with some unknown liquid if not for Dixon.
He had hugged me protectively and I was not injured as a result. In my disheveled state, I rose and sat on a chair.
The backyard was dimly illuminated and I sat on the chair to recover but apprehension lingered as I ignored Dixon throughout.
He picked himself up and smoothed out his suit before frigidly admonishing, "What are you doing?"
Wendy swiftly deflected all the blame. "Mr. Gregg, this has nothing to do with me. I had no idea Gwen would attempt such a thing. Are you and Miss Shaw alright?"
Dixon disregarded Wendy and glared at Gwen with a malicious glint in his eyes. "What's in that bottle?"
Gwen grinned and stated, "Dixon, it's sulfuric acid."
