CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT – THE HIRED HUSBAND

John was ensconced at the office before dawn as usual, and Karina took advantage of the empty townhome to set her plan into motion. Dressing in nondescript athletic wear, she threw on a baseball cap and oversized sunglasses in a feeble attempt at camouflage before setting out. Her hands were uncharacteristically clammy on the steering wheel as she idled outside the sleek high-rise building Thomas allegedly lived at with Sally. Karina knew she was perhaps taking this to irrational extremes, but she had been raised to value discretion above all else. If Thomas truly was being unfaithful to her, she needed documentary proof before broaching any accusations. The thought of poor, sweet Sally being betrayed by a lying cheat made Karina's heart clench with grief for the other woman. Which was what spurred her to stay vigilant in her self-appointed stakeout, running a careful eye over every pedestrian that entered or exited the building's main lobby.
