CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE – CONSULTING THE DRUID
The creak of the wooden door sent a jolt through Karina. A tall, slender figure emerged from the shadows of the doorway. Allistair, his weathered face etched with a network of wrinkles, looked older than Karina remembered. His bushy white eyebrows rose in surprise as he took in their disheveled appearance.
"John, Karina," he said, his voice raspy with age. "What brings you here so unexpectedly?"
John wasted no time. "Allistair, it's Becky. She…" He faltered, his gaze darting towards the Jeep where Karina stood holding Becky close.
Understanding flickered in Allistair's eyes. "Come in, come in," he said, ushering them inside. The familiar, musky scent of old books and herbs filled Karina's nostrils. Despite the urgency of their situation, a sense of comfort washed over her, a feeling of stepping into a sanctuary.
Allistair led them into a cozy living room, sunlight streaming through a large window. He offered them tea, but John shook his head curtly. "There's no time for tea, Allist
