Chapter 9
Janice stared at her crochet desk, which had collapsed on the floor.
She sent Simon a text. Then, she put her desk back in place and continued fixing her crochet design.
After getting home, Simon hadn't checked his phone. He did so deliberately as he was waiting for Janice to call him with her apology.
After all, she had always done that. It was always Janice who apologized and gave in.
"Have you two argued?" asked Helena after noticing that Simon looked displeased.
He tugged at his tie in frustration and replied, "It's nothing."
"Good for you! You should've broken up with her a long time ago. She's like the plague that will only cause trouble for us! Calm down and have some hangover medicine."
"It doesn't matter. She'll call me to apologize soon," Simon announced confidently, as though he was sure Janice would apologize.
"Simon," Helena started. She seized the opportunity and sat down beside him.
With a calculative glint in her eye, she continued, "The truth is that Sarah hasn't been doing well for the past few years. In the future, we'll stay here to help you.
"However, Sarah can't keep staying at your place. It's inappropriate. Why don't you get her a house?"
Simon asked, "Doesn't she have one already?"
"You're a powerful CEO now. It'll be embarrassing on your part if your sister stays in a regular neighborhood. I don't need you to spend any more money. The one you currently have is good enough."
Simon frowned and said, "Janice paid for half of the property."
"Isn't she your girlfriend? What's hers is yours. So what if a woman doesn't have a house? Tell her about this and persuade her to give the house to Sarah.
"It's under your name anyway. You can change it to Sarah's name when you're free. If you need to, you can just pay Janice off," said Helena.
Simon was still stewing in anger. He disliked how Janice had the guts to disobey him. He owned the house and could decide what to do with it. There was no need to ask Janice's permission.
"Mom, I'm not in the mood to consider this."
"Alright, alright. Get some rest, Simon!"
Sarah was surprised when she heard about this. "Simon didn't shut Mom's suggestion down immediately?"
Amelia chuckled and said, "Believe me, Simon is a family man, not to mention how Helena adores you. Simon paid for the house, too. Hasn't Janice paid for her portion using the money Simon gave her?
"At the end of the day, it's still his money. You just have to keep mentioning this. What can Janice do about it?"
"You're right," Sarah responded.
Amelia looked down and sniggered. She wanted to push Janice out of Simon's life.
All of this, including Janice's wealth, should've belonged to her. If not for her childish naivety, how would Janice have gotten the chance to enjoy the past few years? This was just returning things to their original owner.
In the middle of the night, the sound of the door slamming terrified Helena. She ran out and saw Simon striding out, looking livid.
"It's so late. Where are you going?"
"Janice said she wanted to break up with me!" What a rebellious act.
Helena had been drowsy after getting woken up. Upon hearing his words, she immediately perked up. Did Janice want to break up with Simon? That was excellent news!
"Mrs. Fitzgerald, don't get yourself worked up. I'll go with Simon."
"Considering your health, are you able to go out?"
Amelia's eyes flashed with guilt. She replied, "It's no matter. Simon is important."
"Good girl." Helena's liking for Amelia, who was obedient and gentle, was growing by the minute. "Take care."
"Alright, Mrs. Fitzgerald."
Amelia put on a coat and hurried after him.
Simon watched her get into the car but couldn't be bothered to ask. His thoughts were absorbed by the message Janice sent. It said, "Simon, let's break up."
Break up? Janice wanted to break up with him? How dare she? How could she break up with him? Even if they were to break up, it had to come from him!
Amelia was excited. She sat in the passenger's seat and put on a gentle act, displaying her concern for him and soothing him. The more she did so, the more Simon thought that Janice was disobedient.
At Refined Threads Co., Janice had pulled an all-nighter and finally fixed her crochet design. It was perfect. The Fall Tournament was of utmost importance to her. She was treating it seriously to keep Prosper Stitch Group as their partner.
She carefully placed it into a box and left her office, preparing to get some sleep in a hotel. The second she left the office, she was met with Simon, who was storming toward her. Janice immediately walked in the opposite direction.
"Janice!" He grabbed her arm before yanking her into his arms. Amelia widened her eyes and gritted her teeth angrily.
"How dare you break up with me?"
"Let me go first." Janice didn't want to speak to him.
"Answer me!"
Simon grabbed her face as his gaze turned cold. "Did you get to know another man who can support you? Why else would you have the guts to test my limits time and time again?
"Janice, don't do disgusting things like that. If you do so, I'll feel like my purity has been stained by dating you." In his anger, he guessed that she had gotten the favor of a powerful old man.
At the gala, she had conversed with many important men with Matilda. Why did they like speaking to her? Wasn't it because of her appearance?
The funniest part was how Janice believed they admired her for her talent! What talent did she have? Was it how she wore an off-shoulder dress and smiled seductively at men?
She slapped him. The sound echoed through the night.
Amelia shrieked, "Janice, how could you hit him?"
Janice ignored her and pushed Simon away. "Simon, what are you talking about?"
Was she dirty?
"Have I hit the nail on the head?"
Simon was so furious he grimaced. "Did you think you were all that? Do you think that Refined Threads Co. can't survive without you?
"Blind confidence is not a good trait. You're a woman, and you should rely on men to survive. You must listen to me and stay at home!"
Janice chuckled and asked, "Why didn't you ask me to stay home when I was giving out flyers with you back then?"
She opened the door to her car and threw her bag in. Then, she drove off, not caring whether this would anger Simon.
"Good… Very good." Simon's eyes were red from his anger. He called Sarah immediately and said, "Tomorrow, we'll transfer the mansion to your name at 9:00 am."
He had to teach Janice a lesson. Sarah had been feeling drowsy. When she heard this, she quickly came to and said excitedly, "Alright!"
As he stared after Janice's car speeding into the night, Simon gritted his teeth. He would not forgive Janice this time if she didn't apologize to him!
After checking in at the hotel, Janice contacted the Prosper Stitch Group and confirmed that she would bring her work over to show them at 1:00 pm the next day.
Janice sat by the window for a long time after settling that. Her seven-year relationship was draining her. Simon's words echoed in her head, and it made tears gather in her eyes.
