He pretended to be cautious. "Mrs. Gray, my teacher says it's impolite to ask about other people's family situations."
Gretchen was momentarily taken aback, realizing she had asked too many questions. However, she noticed that the child was quite intelligent. Even at such a young age, he knew to be wary of strangers.
"I'm sorry for making a mistake." She reached out to pat Jayden's head, but he pulled away. Gretchen's hand froze in midair.
Matthew was surprised that his usually indifferent great-aunt showed such interest in Jayden and felt a pang of discomfort. "Great-Aunt Gretchen, I still need to show Jayden around elsewhere, so we won't bother you any longer."
Gretchen had no reason to stop them, so she said, "Alright, enjoy yourselves. If you need anything, just let me know."
