Cassidy was exhausted as she collapsed to the ground as the fire dwindled before sizzling away. Jacob shifted back into his human form as he gathered her into his arms. “Jacob, I need to gather my strength. Can you take me to my grandfather’s house on the other side of the creek, please,” she asked him. Jacob hesitated for a moment since the cabin that he had fixed up for her was closer, but he went against his better judgment and followed his mate’s wishes.
