chapter 7 — Return of the Ex

Hannah strutted down the long, narrow hallway, making her way to the Alpha's office. Her hips twitched back and forth in her tight black dress, and her red stiletto clicked against the wood floor as she walked. The seam that ran from the back of her legs up to her thighs pressed against her skin as she felt the lingering eyes stare at her as she passed them. Gavin looked up from his desk when an unwanted familiar scent reached his nose. He groaned internally as he got up from his chair and stalked toward the door, finding the owner of the unpleasant smell he had thought was long gone from his best friend's life. "Hannah, how did you get past security?" Gavin growled at her in annoyance as he crossed his arms and leaned against the door frame, blocking her from entering. Hannah tossed her platinum blonde hair behind her shoulder and plastered a fake smile across her face. "I'm here to see Jacob. I made an appointment with his secretary. She must have forgotten to let you know," she said snidely. "Sorry, Hannah, Jacob is out of the office," Gavin told her. Hannah's eyes scrolled up and down Gavin's body as she tried to size him up. It had been a few years since she had seen him last. "Come on, Gavin, I just want to catch up with him, that's all," she said with a hint of sadness and looked at him with doe eyes. Gavin chuckled. Hannah dropped the sad act quickly and narrowed her green eyes at him. "I will get in touch with him, one way or another. You can't stop me." Gavin met her glare dead on as he waited for the security guards he had mind-linked to escort Hannah back to the other side of the pack line where she belonged. She felt the presence of the two men standing behind her. "You underestimate me," she said with a cruel laugh. Gavin stood straight as he towered over the tall woman standing before him. "You're not going to do anything if you know what's good for you," he said under his breath, knowing she heard every word of it. "Fine," Hannah huffed out before turning and allowing the men next to her to escort her out. Jacob entered the pack house and froze when the scent of his ex hit his nose. His fierce blue eyes narrowed as he saw her come into his sight as she was being walked out by two of his top security guards. Hannah's eyes lit up with joy when she saw Jacob standing at the door. She immediately left the two men behind as she shimmied her way toward the man she had been there to see. She wrapped her arms around Jacob's neck and kissed his cheek, leaving remnants of her red lipstick in the shape of her lips behind. Jacob pulled Hannah's arms away from his neck and dropped them to her side. "What are you doing here?" he snarled at her. Hannah didn't let the harshness in his tone affect her. She was here for one reason and one reason alone: to get Jacob back and become Luna of his pack. Okay, two reasons. "I've missed you, Jacob," she said softly as she looked at him with want and need in her eyes. Jacob closed his eyes as he blocked out the evil siren that was standing in front of him. He had been fooled by her so many times in the past, except this time, he wouldn't be affected by her temptations. "Outside, now," he ordered. Hannah strolled past him as she stepped through the entryway and made her way outside. Jacob leaned toward his two guards and whispered, "Stay close; this won't take long." Jacob looked over at his long-time friend when he felt his presence enter the room. "I've got this," he told him with confidence. He stepped outside and closed the door behind him, giving him what little privacy they had as they stood on the front steps of his pack house. "Jacob, I made …." Hannah started, but he raised his hand to stop her. "I promised the last time you walked away from me would be the last time I let you play me for a fool. I am done playing your games. What we had in the past is gone. I have to do what is best for me and the pack. Getting back together with you is not the answer," he told her. Hannah's blood boiled with rage as she listened to his rejection, but she wouldn't give up. "You have said this before, and we end up getting back together. We were young and naive; I didn't know what I had until it was gone. I realized you are the Alpha I need to make my life complete," she confessed. Jacob shook his head. Alden: We don't need this leech. We have our mate. Tell her, tell her we have found our mate. Jacob: It's not that easy. "I'm sorry, Hannah. I want you to leave and never come back," he ordered. Hannah's eyes started to glow as her rage fueled her wolf. "This isn't over. You will take me back, Jacob; just wait." she threatened before she turned and started to walk away. The door to the pack house quickly opened, and the two guards stepped out to catch up with the tall blonde stomping away. Gavin stood at the entryway, one hand leaning on the frame and the other resting on his hip. His shaggy hair was free from that horrid product he had to use to make himself look like a businessman and able to sit softly against his forehead. "SO..." Gavin started. "Not a word. Not one word," Jacob said in his Alpha tone before pushing his friend away from the door, entering the pack house before slamming the door behind him.
