Chapter 10 - Bad Situations
Adrian smiled softly; he needed to answer this just the right way. He couldn’t tell her the real reason why he wanted possession of the land. Adrian had a feeling that Cassidy had no idea what type of neighbors she had living just on the other side of the creek that passes through their property line. He had to leave the right effect of how much he needed this house. Realistically, it would give him the upper hand that he needed in order to destroy his enemy just on the other side of that little creek.
“My family had a house similar to this one while I was growing up. Unfortunately, they are no longer around. I just thought this would be a great place to settle down with a family when I was ready.” He shook his head and looked away shyly. “You probably think that’s sappy.”
Cassidy looked at the tall man in front of her as her heart fluttered at the reason. She shook her head and said, “No, I don’t think that’s sappy. I appreciate your honesty. Look, I promised my friend I would give this place a chance before making any rash decisions. Thank you for coming up and introducing yourself, but for now, the answer is no.”
Adrian nodded his head in acceptance but knew he was not defeated, not yet. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a golf tin case. He opened it and pulled out a card. “Here’s my card. Whenever you are ready to talk about selling this place, or maybe just need to talk. Give me a call,” he said with a charming grin.
Cassidy smiled softly as she took the card out of his hand.
“You ladies, enjoy the rest of your weekend.” He told them before heading back to his car.
As Adrain made it to his car door, he turned and looked toward the forest. His eyes narrowed as he twisted his lips into a crooked smile. He pulled out his sunglasses and put them on before stepping behind the wheel. The sleek black car roared to life and peeled out of the dirt driveway, kicking up smoke and rocks as he drove away.
Natalie rushed out and waved her hand in front of her face to push away the dirt that was still lingering in the air. “What a douchebag,” she announced.
Cassidy just shrugged as she turned and went back into the house.
“Cass, what did he say to you?” Natalie asked as she turned to see her friend move farther into the house. “Cass, Cass, I expect an answer from you. Don’t pretend you can’t hear me!” Natalie yelled out as she grabbed the handle to the screen door, pulling it behind her as she went inside.

Jacob stood in the distance, looking at the house he knew so well. He glared fiercely at the black sports car as it drove recklessly away from the cabin. He seethed with anger as his hands clenched tightly into fists, squeezing his eyes shut as he tried to gain control over his temper. It was taking everything he had to barrel down the hill and force himself into the place to protect his mate. His mate wasn’t just some random girl; she was the granddaughter of his lost friend, and possibly ….
Alden: So, is this a good time to say I told you so?
Jacob: NO!
Jacob yelled in his head at his wolf. He started to step back; he was losing control of himself. It couldn’t be her, Jacob tried to convince himself. She couldn’t be the same girl he tried to rescue on that horrible night. Jacob shook his head as he didn’t want to believe it was true.
Fate had a sick sense of humor if the girl he tried to save all those years ago was still alive. And now she is supposedly fated to be his mate?
Jacob took off running, not knowing where to go. He didn’t feel he could return to the pack in this condition. There was only one place where he felt safe after what happened on that unforgettable night, and that’s where he decided to head. Jacob would go back into the city just for a little while until he could get his head clear and put things in better perspective.
Alden: What about her? Adrian is already talking with her. Do you really want to leave her here unprotected?
Jacob came to a dead stop. He closed his eyes and lifted his head to the sky.
Jacob: No, of course, I don’t want that.
Alden: We need to run into her again to find out why Adrian is snooping around her land.
Jacob nodded his head.
He knew his wolf was right; they needed to stay at the very least to protect the girl and the land from unwanted guests. He turned around and started heading back toward the creek. He needed to make a plan and also needed to find out what Adrian had hidden up his sleeve. Jacob was not the same man he was when he left the pack at sixteen years old. He had learned a lot working in the corporate world. Jacob became meticulous and calculated before making any move. He was no longer that hot-headed boy who reacted before thinking.
Jacob let out a howl to let out the tension he was feeling all throughout his body.
Alden: We will figure this all out. Everything happens for a reason.
Jacob tuned out his wolf and started to pace around once he returned to the creek. He needed to talk to someone about all of this, and as much as he didn’t want anyone to know that he had a human for his mate. Jacob needed insight on what steps to take next, and there was only one person he trusted with this information.
Jacob: Hey, I need you to meet down at the creek. We need to talk.
