Chapter 37
A look crossed her face so fast that I was unable to get a good look at what it was. She opened and closed her mouth repeatedly like a fish and finally settled for crossing her arms over her chest. She glanced around at the bar to make sure there was no one waiting to be served.
“It depends on where you heard it. Why are you asking so many questions, Leindra?”
“Does it matter where I heard it?”
“Not really, I guess,” she muttered. “How about this, I will tell you everything you need to know after the shift, is that okay?”
I nodded and she gave me a wary smile and went towards the bar effectively marking an end to our conversation. I tried my best to concentrate during the shift but I could not help but wonder what I was going to find out and whether or not it had the tendency or possibility to break me.
