As memories from the past flooded into Brendan's mind, his head started to hurt. He lifted his hand to massage his temples. Samuel had raised him for 30 years. He had even gotten his own daughter married to Brendan. Was it really out of remorse and atonement, as Oscar had claimed? After almost 30 years of living, this was the first time Brendan faced so much difficulty. He couldn't figure out who was right and who was wrong. Nonetheless, no matter the circumstance and no matter what happened, he wanted to be with Naomi and Bryson. He wanted to protect those he loved. His phone on the table rang. Brendan snapped back to his senses and picked up his phone. Soon enough, he was back into work mode, all the way until the evening. When he called Naomi to say that he would pick her up, she said, "I have to work overtime today. Myles will take me home later on. You don't have to come by." On the other end of the call, Brendan uttered in a soft voice, "I miss you. I'll pick you up."
