Hearing Mason's question, Avery replied, "No need to say nice things twice."
Mason laughed. Holding her hand, he said, "Avery, this is actually pretty nice."
She kept her eyes on the road ahead and stayed silent.
Of course he felt it was nice. He'd found a stand-in. For her, though, it was unfair. She didn't want to be anyone's replacement for the rest of her life. There was no meaning in that.
Shortly after, they arrived at his place in Gracity. As soon as Avery walked in, Mason hugged her and kissed her. His impatience sent Avery stumbling backward. At last, he grabbed her waist to stop her from falling.
Avery wrapped her arms around his neck and looked him in the eye. Standing on tiptoe, she kissed him back.
She understood it had nothing to do with love—only that she wanted to complete her agreement with him as soon as possible. The existence of that contract gave both of them a ready excuse.
Avery's sudden eagerness stirred Mason even more. He grabbed her waist and deepened
