Meanwhile, Avery got home early that evening. She seldom got to sleep early, so by 9:00 pm she was already in bed. She was sleeping soundly when her phone, left by her pillow, began to vibrate.
The first time it buzzed, Avery didn't hear it. The second time, she half opened her eyes and reached out to grab it. Without even checking who was calling, she mumbled drowsily, "Hello? Who's this?"
Who on earth was calling at this hour? If she didn't have a decent temper, she might have cursed him out by now.
On the other end, Mason heard her sleepy voice and went straight to the point. "Avery, where are you right now?"
Naomi had told him to pay more attention to Avery. She had said Avery had accepted he didn't love her and was prepared to walk away anytime.
