Avery seemed to have appeared in his life at just the right moment.
Mason's gaze softened as he looked at her, making it clear he wanted to kiss her. But he held back, probably because of his fever. That restraint didn't go unnoticed.
Avery smiled, cupped his face with both hands, and stood on her toes to press her lips against his.
Her soft kiss sent a wave of warmth through Mason, instantly lifting his spirits. The exhaustion he'd felt moments ago seemed to melt away, replaced by a surge of energy.
Somehow, Avery always managed to strike him right where it mattered most.
When the kiss finally ended, Mason wrapped his arms around her waist, his gaze affectionate as he teased, "You don't mind, do you?"
Avery smiled back. "You didn't mind when I was sick, did you?"
Before Mason could respond, the doorbell rang.
