401: Diverging Paths
The afternoon sun filtered through the windows, casting long shadows across the floor as Bauer wrestled with the fallout of his conversation with Emma. Her departure had left a palpable tension in the air, and now, alone with his thoughts, Bauer could not shake the sense of unease that had settled over him.
As he replayed the conversation in his mind, he understood why Emma had reacted so strongly. His intentions had been to approach the situation with rationality and caution, but to Emma, it seemed as if he was defending or protecting this Clarke, a man who might be at the heart of their family's turmoil.
Emma’s words echoed in his mind: "I brought this diary to you because I trust you. But your stance on this issue makes me very angry. You don't realize how troublesome this situation is for us."
