Laura sensed Matthew's mockery in his words and felt his gaze piercing through her. Her cheeks burned as if she had been slapped hard.

She stuttered nervously, sweat forming on her forehead.
"Is this how small-minded people talk?" Clara sneered, showing no mercy to Laura, who shot her a hateful glare in return.
Ignoring Laura completely, Clara rested her chin on her hand, amusedly watching the Taylor family.
They were practically lining up to entertain her.
Fuming, Laura clenched her teeth, but she still managed to give Matthew a pitiful look. "Clara, how could you say such hurtful things about me, even if I lied to you?"
Laura's tearful voice grated on Matthew's nerves.
He couldn't help but furrow his brow and scoff. "If you want to cry, go cry somewhere else."
