CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX: THORNS AMONGST ROSES

We broke the kiss a few minutes later, and I had to wipe my tears quickly, but he saw it before I could.
“It’s fine; let's go upstairs,” he said, holding my hands firmly and pulling me upstairs.
After the food burned, George had to order another meal, and we ate before retiring to our room. I couldn't sleep a wink again, just like I did last night.
I kept on reminiscing about what Charles had told me, and all that kept ringing in my head were Gwen's words about ruining my marriage in three days.
The morning seemed to take an eternity to arrive, and when it finally did, I felt like something bad was about to happen. Seeing his eyes stir repeatedly, I lay down quickly and pretended to be asleep.
“Morning, pretty eyes,” he said after a few minutes, kissing my eyes.
“Good morning,” I muttered, opening my eyes like someone who just woke up. His eyes squinted like he had noticed something, and I raised my brows.
“What?” As we both sat upright, I inquired.
