CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT: CONFLICT AT ITS PEAK

I breathed heavily, brushing my hair backward with my fingers while sniffing back my tears. The gatekeeper approached me with a confused look, and a glare from me stopped him in his tracks.
“Mademoiselle—”
“One more word from you, and you’re fired!” I yelled, and my tears flowed freely, betraying me. Charles was right!
George was losing interest in me already, and that's why he left even without caring about me!
I walked back into the house, ignoring the gatekeeper, who still had his gaze glued to me. Getting back to the sitting room, I angrily threw away all the plates on the dining table, pouring and messing the floor with the food George had prepared.
“Maybe I don't deserve to be happy!” I cried, rushing upstairs. When I got to the room, I fell heavily on the bed, pouring my tears out.
