CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: BACK TO THE PAST

Those words were like needles piercing my skin, and I had to blink repeatedly in surprise. Why would he refer to George as a monster?
“Monster?” I asked, surprisingly, with my eyebrows raised.
“And why would you give him such qualifications?" I inquired further, getting upset already.
“That's because people who ruin others are referred to as monsters,” he said, and I heaved a sigh.
“To whoever is on the line, my husband isn't a monster, so get yourself some brains,” I said bluntly.
I knew who it was; I just decided to feign innocence. Without waiting for his reply, I hung up immediately, tossing the phone aside. I heaved a deep sigh and suddenly heard the creaking sound of the door, and I turned to see George coming in.
“Mae?” he called.
“You were taking longer than expected, so I decided to come check on you,” he said, walking towards me before planting a kiss on my forehead. I sighed.
