I wasn't even sure if telling Frank the truth was something I ought to say, but I spewed out the statement without realizing it.
Earlier, I'd mistakenly walked into the room, probably because I was thinking about George and not thinking straight.
Of course, a normal me wouldn't walk into the same room where Frank was, but it was too late to go back; he had already caught me.
“What did you just say?” he asked, and I breathed.
“What if George doesn't want you to let him know?” a tiny voice said in my head.
“Frank, your request is something I don't think I can do,” I prodded gently, hoping it wouldn't get him riled up, especially with the fact that I'd just told him the truth about my broken marriage with George.
“Then I'll go for him,” he said. His eyes didn't blink a single bit when he spoke, and that only meant one thing: He was not joking.
“And you think the cops won't come after you?” I tried acting stubborn, and he chuckled.
