"Beth, you don't have to feel like you owe me anything," Trystan said with a bitter smile. "Everything I'm doing now is what I should be doing. And... I hope that someday when you regain your memories, you won't hate me as much."
Bethany shook her head. "It's all in the past. I believe that even if I could remember everything, those things would seem distant and faded."
"I hope so," Trystan answered, forcing a smile. "So, what are your plans now?"
"I'm going to help Mateo," she insisted. "I've already contacted one of his mentors. I'm sure we'll find a way to help him."
She was so determined because she knew she didn't love Mateo, and she never would.
Love was a peculiar thing. When she wasn't in love, no amount of effort could change that. She was focused now on helping Mateo get through this tough time, as a way of repaying him for the past three years.
Trystan froze for a moment, after which he nodded, his heart pounding with pain.
