Bethany glanced at Asher and Elysia again, an inexplicable emotion welling up inside her. She paused for a moment, then walked over to Emma.
"Ms. Garcia, I'm sorry to bother you again," she began.
Emma forced a smile, her impatience evident. "Ms. Reyes, please have a seat. I heard from Ely that you'd like the two kids to leave school together?"
Bethany hesitated before replying, "I just thought Ash might feel a little lonely waiting in the classroom by himself every day."
"Ms. Reyes, I mentioned before that Ash has autism," Emma said, her tone serious.
Bethany nodded quickly. "I know."
"That's the reason he'll stay behind. I'd appreciate it if you didn't treat him like any other child or think you're helping by doing so."
