Trystan remained unresponsive as if Bethany's voice couldn't reach him.
Bethany's chest tightened with pain. She crouched beside the bed, taking Trystan's hand and pressing it softly against her cheek.
"It's me, Trystan! Look, it's me!" she cried.
Finally, a flicker of acknowledgment appeared. His gaze shifted slowly toward her. He stared, unblinking, his expression distant as though she were a stranger.
"It's me, Trystan. I'm Bethany. Beth. Don't you recognize me?" Bethany sniffled. "Ash and Ely are here, too. You always dreamed of the four of us being together, didn't you? I swear, we'll stay together this time. We'll never let anything separate us again."
Her eyes searched his face for any sign of recognition, and at last, she saw tears rolling down his cheeks. He was finally responding.
Bethany rose and wrapped her arms around him. "Trystan! I'm so sorry. I misjudged you. You didn't do anything wrong. None of us did. From now on, let's stay together—always!"
