The Wedding’s Off

Austyn sat up straighter in bed. ‘We need to talk.’ His ominous tone made her uneasy. ‘About what?’ ‘I’m afraid we’ll have to cancel the wedding.’ ‘What?’ Gwen raised her voice. Before she could process the bombshell, Austyn dropped another. ‘We need to break up.’ ‘Are you out of your mind?’ Gwen was shouting at the top of her lungs. ‘The wedding’s scheduled for this month! I’ve sent out all the invitations! I’ve got the wedding dress! All my friends and family will be there! How can you just cancel it?’ ‘I have a valid reason, of course.’ ‘What?’ Gwen had a sinking feeling in her heart. She gripped her phone. ‘I’ll be committing bigamy if I marry you, so the wedding cannot go on under any circumstances. And I don’t want to see Kira getting upset.’ Gwen gasped. She understood the implication of his words immediately. ‘You’ve…you’ve recovered your memory?’ ‘No. But my marriage to Kira is a fact. It can’t be changed, regardless of whether I remember it or not.’ ‘But you promised you’d ma
