Kira took a calming breath and then got up to change her clothes.
She had to meet Gwen sooner or later.
Today worked as well as any other time.
Kira paused outside the café and steeled herself for the battle ahead.
She was about to go up against her husband’s fiancée, which was something she never thought could happen, even in her wildest dreams.
She spotted Gwen in a quiet corner on the second floor.
‘Have a seat.’ Gwen beckoned her over. ‘I ordered a cup of mocha for you. I hope you like coffee.’
Kira took a sip and set down the mug.
She was running on fumes.
The chocolatey coffee worked wonders as a pick-me-up.
But she didn’t come here for beverages.
‘Rough night?’ Gwen asked when she saw the heavy bags under Kira’s eyes.
‘Why did you want to see me?’ Kira didn’t answer her question.
They were not friends.
There was no point engaging in small talk.
Gwen smiled pleasantly. ‘Why are you in such a hurry? I thought we could reminisce about old times.’
