Austyn had made up his mind to keep his distance.

Thinking of this, Austyn returned to his aloof self.
Kira’s eyes lit up.
‘You were worried about me?’
‘No,’ Austyn answered hastily. ‘I just don’t want to be implicated if something happens to you on my doorstep.’
Kira’s face fell.
Austyn cleared his throat and decided not to look at her.
He stepped around her.
Kira spun around and trailed him.
She darted into the lift before he could press the button to close the door.
They rode down to the basement carpark in total silence.
Kira racked her brain for something to say.
Austyn beat her to it.
‘Where are you headed?’
‘Wherever you are going,’ she said without thinking.
Austyn wanted to throw up his hands.
Was the woman stalking him openly?
Kira caught the look of displeasure on his face and changed her answer. ‘Um, I was just kidding. You can drop me off around the corner.’
