Chapter 4: Birth Control Pills
Alison’s words were spoken with sincerity, and from her expression, there wasn’t the slightest hint of a flaw. The crowd that had initially been eager to watch a spectacle lost interest immediately after hearing her explanation.
Alison noticed the subtle changes in everyone’s expressions, storing those observations in her mind. It was only at this moment that Alison fully understood where she had lost in her previous life. No matter how she reacted, to the White family, she was nothing more than a complete joke.
She couldn’t stay there another second longer.
She wanted to flee immediately. But as long as Aiden White, the head of the White family, hadn’t spoken, she dared not make a move.
Alison put on a perfectly timed expression of sorrow. “The matter has already been clarified, so there’s no need for me to stay any longer. After all, I have no right to interfere in the White family’s internal affairs.”
After saying this, Alison decisively left. But as she turned to go, she could feel a probing gaze lingering on her back. Not that it mattered to her.
How they resolved the issue wasn’t something she intended to pay attention to.
When Alison returned to her room, ready to rest, she was greeted by the sight of her mother, Jane Lane, looking worried.
Jane and Lucas White had no real standing in the White family. The servants and butlers called them "sir" and "madam" out of formality, but in truth, they looked down on them.
Jane quickly walked up to Alison and gently patted her shoulder.
"What kind of game are you playing? You might fool them, but do you really think you can fool me?"
Alison feigned ignorance, not bothering to respond.
Jane's true nature was something Alison had already come to understand long ago. She had fallen into the same trap once before and wasn’t about to repeat the mistake.
Seeing her daughter remain silent, Jane’s anger flared up instantly, and she began shouting.
"Look at you! After the way you came back last night, it was clear someone had humiliated you! Now this whole affair is public, and one wrong move could harm the White family’s business! Why don't you take this opportunity to become one of them? Why are you letting Jenny Black get the better of you? Are you trying to drive me mad?"
The more Alison listened, the angrier she became. She had been trying to avoid all this mess—how could she possibly admit to any of it?
But when she thought about it from a different perspective, Jane’s behavior made a twisted kind of sense. After her father had passed away, Jane had still provided Alison with a comfortable life. Jane had even insisted on bringing Alison along when she married Lucas White.
However, establishing a real foothold in the White family was nearly impossible.
“Mother, I’m tired,” Alison said, rubbing her aching temples with a pained expression.
“Tired, you say? You’ve just let such a perfect chance slip by. If you could marry Oliver, wouldn’t that life of luxury be worth it?”
Hearing this, Alison’s voice turned cold. “If Oliver’s so great, why don’t you marry him?”
Jane’s face turned red with rage. Of course, she wanted to—who wouldn’t? But she didn’t dare.
The room fell into a tense silence.
Suddenly, a thought crossed Alison’s mind, and she looked up sharply at Jane.
“Do you have any of that medicine?”
“What kind of medicine?”
“Birth control.”
Alison gritted her teeth, her headache intensifying as she spoke.
Jane waved her hand dismissively. “At my age? I have no use for something like that.”
Alison hadn’t thought about it until now. But to avoid repeating the tragedy of her previous life, she had to take the birth control pills, no matter what.
Clenching her eyes shut, her voice took on a pleading tone. “Can you buy it for me?”
She loved Natalia, but she couldn’t bring her into this world under these circumstances. She prayed her little angel would be born into a family full of love.
Jane hesitated for a moment before eventually nodding in agreement.
However, just as she was about to leave, Lucas White walked in. Jane handed the task to one of the housemaids instead.
Little did she know that the maid had already been bought by Jenny.
Forty minutes later, Jane returned with a black bag, handing it to Alison.
“Here’s what you asked for.”
Alison glanced at the label on the box, not hesitating for a moment as she tore it open. As she prepared to take the pill, she instinctively touched her stomach, silently praying.
**"My little angel Natalia, may God bless you and let you be born into a happy family. Don’t suffer anymore. Please grow up happy and healthy."**
Though her heart ached, Alison couldn’t bring Natalia into this nightmare. After a moment of hesitation, she swallowed the pills, forcing herself to chew them, the bitter taste filling her mouth. She swallowed hard, trying to push the pain away.
When she finally regained her composure, she realized her vision was blurred with tears.
**Oliver White, you’re rid of two people who bothered you. You should be happy, right?**
Regaining her resolve, Alison grabbed the box of pills and reached for her lighter, intending to burn it. But before she could, two large maids burst into the room.
Without a word, they grabbed Alison and Jane.
Minutes later, Alison was thrown roughly onto the floor of the main hall.
Exhausted from a sleepless night, Alison felt worn out, but her pride wouldn’t allow her to show any weakness in front of people she despised.
Slowly, she forced herself to stand.
Everyone stared at her as if she were some loathsome witch.
Oliver’s gaze was especially cold, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
No one spoke. Only Jenny continued crying.
Annoyed by the sound of Jenny’s tears, Alison instinctively glanced over and saw the malice in Jenny’s eyes.
In that moment, Alison understood—the others had discovered what she had done.
Even though she had compromised, they still wouldn’t let her go.
While she was lost in thought, a box was suddenly thrown at her, snapping her back to reality.
