Jenny was intentionally slandering Alison, which infuriated Jane Lane to the point where she wanted to curse out loud. Alison sensed her mother's anger and quickly grabbed her hand, gently shaking her head to dissuade her. They were standing in front of the school, and it wouldn’t look good to cause a scene.
