Chapter 5 What just happened?

“He was bashing me and you said nothing.” Lizabeth sounded betrayed. “I thought you will debunk his claims and assure him of how we will be able to survive the storm.” Oscar’s car has long gone away from the two of them, but they were still standing at the same spot because Mariama does not want to go back or forth. She wanted the both of them to stand just at the same spot. “Sorry, I already cut him off my life, and his circle, I’ll buy those ones over or sink their businesses more than his money can ever do.” Mariama sounded quite brave, but her words amused Lizabeth. Come on, Mariama is nothing but an amnesia patient who got lucky with the rich man, Oscar who took her in and married her. She has nothing, unless she managed to stache some of the funds she receives as allowances somewhere, but even if she does that, she can never in her life sink the businesses of Oscar’s rich friends. Not in this world. Not in this life. The poor and overthrown cannot fight the rich. “Maybe you should stop saying big things out of rage.” Lizabeth said with a soothing smile and pulled Mariama to herself. “Don’t worry, everything will be alright.” Mariama looked her in the face and smiled, then, she held her face with both hands and took a deep breath, a hopeful one. “Everything is alright already. It’s doesn’t take long to be alright.” A car stopped by them and the two ladies turned to the car. It was a sweet looking Mecedes Maybach. The driver alighted from the car and bowed at the sight of Mariama. He was cladded in a black suit and black glasses, like a CIA agent who show up once in a while in secret places during some secret investigations and missions. “What is this. Mariama?” Lizabeth asked. Mariama smiled. “I told you I’ll take you to heaven, right.” She touched Lizabeth’s shoulder. “I told you everything will be alright.” “Greetings, Lady Light.” Said the driver. “We have no time in the open. We must leave right away.” Mariama nodded to his words and took Lizabeth’s hand in hers, squeezed it gently and led her to the luxurious car which was waiting to cart them off from the roadside. “Welcome to the new life.” She made Lizabeth hop in first before she hopped in and the driver shut the door. It was a miracle. Lizabeth have not in any day of his life bored a luxurious vehicle. All she knows are the trains of the subway and the buses. She knows no other good vehicle. “What happened?” she asked. “Who is he?” “My servant.” said Mariama. “He is my servant.” Lizabeth scuffed. Maybe Mariama retained the contacts of Oscar’s rich friends, if not, who on earth will fetch her such wealth in her damn life. “But you and I know you have nothing, right?” Lizabeth continued. “How come, you are so big you have a big car and a driver. Isn’t that a lot?” Mariama smiled. Her words might appear funny, but nothing was going funny in anyway with them in the car, heading to a mansion very far from Oscar’s mansion, and far bigger than whatever the fellow, Oscar, can ever own in his dear life. The car rolled into a crooked road and glided through it till it stopped at a big warehouse. In the warehouse were private jets waiting for their passengers. The river alighted and opened the door of the car for Mariama and Lizabeth. The two ladies alighted from the vehicle and was led into the massive ware house by the driver. There were thirty men on suit in the mansion, chatting among each other. They seemed not to have noticed the presence of the two ladies and the driver, until the driver jammed his palms together, drawing their attention. They turned and once they saw Mariama, they went down on their knees and bowed their heads to her in utter silence. The once noisy warehouse went silent all of a sudden. A door crackled open at the far end of the warehouse. A man, tall and slim, walked out of the door with two ladies, but as soon as his eyes met Mariama’s face. He and his ladies dropped on their knees and bowed to her. “Why are they bowing to you?” Lizabeth whispered into Mariama’s ears. “Are you a god in this warehouse?” Mariama said nothing. The old lady, Lizabeth was clearly far beyond trend. She made to the man kneeling with two ladies who bore piles of files in hands. “Wait for me, Lizabeth.” she said loud enough for Lizabeth to hear. “Lady Light.” The man said, humbled by Mariama’s presence. Mariama offered him her hand and he kissed her fingers which bore no ring. “We were told that you died in the crash.” Mariama smiled and looked down on the man. “Yes, I died, but I’m back, alive and stronger than I have ever been.” She said and held the man up to his feet. “Who took charge of the company in my absence?” The man paused, but hid his shock with a weak smile. “Your father’s younger sister, Vickie took charge in your absence.” Said the man. “She was appointed by your uncle who chose life over the business your father spent his lifetime building.” Mariama frowned. Her uncle is supposed to be the one managing the company she left behind after she went missen, not her aunt, Vickie, whom she knows well enough as a reckless fellow who would start a fight outside just to avenge the past. She scuffed and looked around her. Everyone was kneeling apart from the man in front of her and Lizabeth who came with her. “Your name?” she asked. “Jacob.” Said the man. “Jacob, I want to return to my mansion as soon as possible and take charge of the company I left behind, and mind you, you must not breath a word of this to anyone.” She said in low tone. A car drove into the warehouse, flashing its light at both Mariama and the man who was standing before her. Everyone waited in silence till the car and the light went off. The owner of the car alighted from it. It was a lady dressed in black leather shirt, black sweat pants and black boots. Silly dressing. She walked up to Mariama who was watching in silence. “Light?” she said and brought her palms to her lips. “Light, you are alive!” She threw her arms around Mariama and held her tight in a warm embrace, wailing in Mariama’s ears while Mariama caressed her back in silence as though she was up for petting the adult lady who doesn’t know what dressing looks nice and what dressing looks awkward. “We were told that you died in the crash, but believe me…” she broke the hug. “I felt it. I knew you cannot die just like that. You are Lady Light, and Light never dies.” Mariama smiled and touched the lady’s face. “Nancy, you should have known that I am never dead when I called you for the ride, and I could have been glad if you came yourself, but you sent me your driver.” Mariama said. “Forgive me, Light, I thought it was a set up.” The lady hugged Mariama once again. “I miss you so much, Light, so much is ruined under the rule of Vickie, your aunt.”
