Chapter 105 Family matters
Mariama stood in the dimly lit hallway of the once-grand Luxor mansion, her eyes fixed on the ornate door of her uncle Macron's study. The house seemed eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the bustling activity it once held. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the confrontation ahead.
As she raised her hand to knock, the door swung open. Macron's imposing figure filled the doorway, his eyes narrowing at the sight of his niece.
"Mariama," he said, his voice cold and dismissive. "To what do I owe this... pleasure?"
Mariama met his gaze unflinchingly. "Uncle, we need to talk. Now."
Macron sighed dramatically, stepping aside to let her enter. "I suppose we must. Though I can't imagine what you think you have to say that could possibly interest me."
The study was a mess of papers and antiques, clearly in the process of being cataloged. Mariama's heart sank as she recognized several family heirlooms among the clutter.
"What is all this?" she demanded, gesturing at the chaos.
