If I hadn't warned Alfie beforehand, he may have argued with the man. Alfie simply glanced in my direction, and then he retreated to the staircase. When the man saw that, he was satisfied.
But when he turned around and saw me standing at the door, he frowned and said, "Aren't you going inside?"
I glanced at him icily. Seconds later, the man swallowed his saliva and looked away. I scoffed, and then I went inside the room.
Accompanied by the sound of the wind chime, the door slammed shut. The store had a mysterious atmosphere; it was decorated with peculiar paintings and cards. It was dim, yet it wasn't as retro and messy as the typical tarot store that I imagined it to be; it was tidy.
