"You see, it's the same with people and liquor—having a preference for liquor is no different than having a preference for people. You prefer vodka, while your father prefers your brother. He can't possibly like red wine just because it's visually appealing.
"You shouldn't change yourself just to please your father—just be yourself," I stated firmly as I disposed of the red wine in my glass and picked up a glass of champagne.
Sylvester was taken aback. He hadn't anticipated being so candid with someone he had just met. Although they had just met a few hours ago, it felt as though they had known each other for years.
I gave Sylvester a reassuring pat and brought him back to the group. I had said everything that needed to be said. If he still couldn't grasp it, that was his problem.
After all, there should be a limit to how much one should help others. Otherwise, it could do more harm than good.
