"That's enough, Ms. Whitfield. Don't waste your tears on someone who doesn't deserve it. Instead of crying, why don't you do something more meaningful?" I handed Cindy a tissue.
She looked up and stood up suddenly, hugging me tightly.
"Xavier, I'm so sad. I was only trying to help Stacy, but why doesn't she believe me? She never really saw me as a friend!
"But Xavier, even so, I can't just watch her fall into a trap." Cindy's voice choked as she pleaded, "Can you find her with me? I want to do one last thing for our friendship."
I paused my hand that was on her back before pushing her away.

She stopped crying abruptly.
"If you want to take care of her like her mother, that's your business. Don't drag me into it."
