He was calm as he answered half-truths and half-lies, "I borrowed my car to a friend yesterday. When he returned it today, he said that he scratched it. I asked him how it happened, and he replied it happened when he bumped across someone's sports car.
"When he spotted someone approaching, he rushed away. I felt it wasn't fair to the car's owner, so I drove to the police station to explain the situation, hoping to contact him and apologize in person."
