My mouth twitched. If classical music enthusiasts heard this, they'd probably fight with my mother. Tickets to see a world-class orchestra were nearly impossible to get, and she asked me to treat it like a sleeping aid.
"Do I really have to go?" I asked, already dreading the answer.
"You have to," my mother replied, narrowing her eyes at me. "And you better bring a female friend. I'll find someone for you if you don't have anyone to go with."
I was puzzled. So this wasn't a ticket for me to relax; it was a setup for a date!
"Xavier, have you decided who you're taking?" my mother urged.
I forced a smile. "Mom, do I look like someone who can't find a date? Just watch, I'll invite someone right now."
Under the hopeful gaze of both my parents, I reluctantly opened WhatsApp. My finger hovered between Grace and Makayla's chat windows and hesitated.
