CHAPTER EIGHTY EIGHT - EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
Anna struggled against his grip, but Marcus was far stronger. He dragged her into the warehouse, where the other conspirators gathered around, their eyes gleaming with malice in the dim light.
"Look what I found snooping outside," Marcus announced, pushing Anna into the center of the group.
Jake stepped forward, his lips curled in a snarl. "I knew I smelled something off. You've been causing us a lot of trouble, little human."
Anna straightened her spine, refusing to show fear despite the terror coursing through her veins. "You're the ones causing trouble," she shot back. "Plotting against Erik, betraying your own pack."
A low growl rumbled through the group, and Anna realized she might have pushed too far. Jake's eyes flashed dangerously as he took another step towards her.
"You have no idea what you're talking about," he growled. "Erik has grown weak, putting the desires of a human above the needs of the pack. We're doing what's necessary to protect our kind."
