CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED – ON THE RUN FROM DEATH
Anna's mind raced as she fled, trying to remember the layout of the mansion. She skidded around a corner, nearly losing her footing, and found herself in a long gallery lined with ancient portraits.
A clawed hand swiped at her back, tearing her shirt and leaving shallow scratches. Anna cried out in pain but didn't slow down. She grabbed a heavy candelabra as she passed, turning to swing it at her pursuer.
Xaya ducked the wild swing, laughing. "Oh, you've got spirit! I'm going to enjoy breaking you."
Anna threw the candelabra at Xaya's feet, buying herself a few precious seconds as the werewolf stumbled. She sprinted down another corridor, her lungs burning, fear giving her speed she didn't know she possessed.
But Xaya was faster, stronger. Anna could feel her getting closer with each passing second. She turned another corner and found herself facing a dead end.
