Chapter 7 You’re Still So Contemptible For A Man
However, when she thought about the Whites…
She took a deep breath and lowered her head again. Then, she knelt slowly.
Thud.
Audrey was shocked by her kneeling. Charles stood behind her, and his eyes were extremely icy.
“Mr. Jones, I hope you’ll forgive me…”
Before she could finish, a glass of liquor was poured over her head. “Sophia, it’s been two years, and you’re still so contemptible for a man.”
Sophia was stunned. When she finally came back to her senses and wiped away the alcohol on her face, William had already left.
Perhaps he was disappointed in her.
Charles was not emotionally moved with this scene at all. He walked over and stopped in front of her. “Since the guest did not forgive you, then you should just keep on kneeling.”
After he said that, he lifted his legs and left.
“Charles…” behind him, Sophia called out to him. She asked softly, “Do you like Leah that much?”
He liked Leah so much that he hated her more than Leah’s biological brother.
“What did you say?” He stopped in his tracks and looked at her while lowering his gaze.
Sophia lifted her head. Her makeup was smudged. She looked comical with patches of black and white on her face. However, her expression showed that she was in despair. “Charles, I really regret what I did back then. If I knew that the person you liked was her, I would have never fallen for you. My biggest mistake in life is falling for you back then.”
He heard her clearly this time. His grim face looked even grimmer now. After a while, he laughed. However, his laugh sounded extremely terrifying. “Really?
“What can you do then? Sophia, the world doesn’t allow regrets.”
The winter in B City this year was extremely cold.
Sophia was wearing a short cheongsam that she wore for work while she knelt at the entrance. Her face was white as snow. Ice formed at the tip of her wet hair.
The cold and the pain in her leg almost caused her to pass out.
It was almost midnight. The number of guests in the club was getting fewer and fewer. Those people would sneer at her when they passed her. However, she did not mind. She only lowered her head and looked at her hands that were turning red from the cold in order to ignore the outside world. This was a habit that she cultivated during those two years.
When she was in prison, she was always getting beat up. In the beginning, she would fight back, but eventually, she would only get even worse beatings if she did that. Hence, she stopped fighting back. She would space out and allow them to hit her with all their might. Gradually, those people would get tired of her and let her go.
She only hoped that Charles and William would let her go too.
She did not know how long had passed. Megan brought a coat out in secret and threw it to her. She said while frowning, “Wear this. It has been two hours. If you stay like this, you’ll die.”
Sophia was shocked. She picked up the coat with her hand and opened her lips that lost their color from the cold. Her voice was hoarse. “Leave me be. I don’t want to implicate you.”
“You’re still worried about me?” Megan did not know how Sophia could have offended someone so powerful. She sighed. At the end of the day, she was still softhearted. “I told you to quit, but you insisted on betting your life. Wait, I’ll get you some hot water.”
Sophia did not want to cause any trouble for her. She lifted her hand to stop her. In the end, amid her panic, she felt dizzy and fell on the ground with a thud.
Her forehead fell heavily on the marble. In her trance, she vaguely heard Megan calling her name. However, darkness overwhelmed her, and she lost consciousness.
At this moment, inside the club, Charles was sitting in the manager’s office with a serious expression on his face. A woman with a nice figure was steeping a pot of tea and poured him a cup.
The hot vapor was dense, and the room smelled nice.
Her instinct was to be observant. She knew Charles was in a bad mood, so she did not mention that at all. She only reminded him absent-mindedly. “I heard the lowest temperature tonight is -12 degree celsius. I’m afraid the flowers I bought that day may not be able to survive.”
“They’re just flowers. Just get new ones.”
“What about a human?”
