Chapter 17 Charles Would Not Let Her Go So Easily
“I won’t want to dirty your clothes.” Sophia removed the suit jacket and handed it back to him.
She cleaned toilets and vomit so she was filthy.
“Nonsense!” Sterling’s eyes were red. He grabbed the suit jacket and draped it across her body roughly. “If you say this kind of thing again, I’ll get mad.”
Sophia felt the warmth of the clothes and smiled. She did not take it off again.
“Stop being a janitor.” Sterling took out his wallet and took out a bank card and put it in her hand. “You should take this. Tell me if it’s not enough.”
“No need. I’m fine being a janitor.” Sophia returned his card.
Sterling did not take the card. He looked at her and felt sad. “Soph, are you angry that I didn’t help you two years ago that’s why you don’t want to spend my money? I…”
“No, don’t overthink this.” Sophia interrupted him. There was a pained expression on her face. “If mom and dad know I took your money, they’ll be angry. Dad’s heart is not well.”
Sterling clenched his fists. He unclenched them and clenched them again. In the end, he put away the bank card. “Alright, it’s fine if you don’t take my card. Let me find a better job for you, okay?”
“No need, Sterling.” Sophia’s voice was low. “I can’t leave Dream Club.”
Charles would not let her go so easily.
Sterling’s face turned white. After a while, he gritted his teeth and the veins on his forehead popped out. “Did Charles force you to become a cleaner?”
Sophia nodded.
“That bastard!” Sterling loosened his tie and his eyes were bloodshot. “Is sending you to prison for two years not enough? What else does he want to do? I want to see him!”
After he said that, he wanted to leave.
“Sterling…” Sophia grabbed him. Her face looked tired. “You’re can’t win against him. Don’t trouble yourself.”
“What should I do then? Should I watch him torture you and do nothing?” He clenched his fist and punched his chest. Every word he said sounded forced. “Am I still a f*cking human if I do that?”
It was getting too loud. Megan was worried so she walked over and stood next to Sophia.
“Think about your children. Don’t be too impulsive.” Megan was here so Sophia did not say much. “It’s late. I should go back now.”
After she said that, she pulled Megan to leave.
“Soph!” Sterling called out behind her. He was conflicted and remorseful.
Sophia stopped in her tracks but she did not turn around.
“I’m sorry.” Sterling clenched his fists. His knuckles were turning white.
“It’s my fault for loving the wrong person. It’s none of your business.” Sophia lowered her voice. Her voice sounded hoarse. “Did mom and dad ask about me?”
Sterling looked guilty. He opened his mouth a few times but did not say anything.
“Sterling, goodnight. Remember, don’t be impulsive.” Sophia suppressed the bitterness in her eyes and jogged to the taxi that was stopped on the side of the road before getting in.
Mom and dad had not forgiven her yet.
However, she did not even have the right to blame them. She could only blame herself for loving someone she should not love and trusting someone she should not trust.
Megan followed her. She had a lot of questions but in the end, she only passed her a piece of tissue. “Wipe your face. Don’t make people think that I’m bullying you.”
When the two of them got back to their dorm, the lights had been turned off.
“Why are you two making such a ruckus in the night and not sleeping? Where is your civility? Are you going to let people sleep?” Tiffany asked wildly. “Never mind. Just pretend I didn’t say anything. You guys are just a murderer and a call girl. What quality will you guys have?”
“Tiffany Lawrence, ask yourself….” Megan’s face was red from anger. “Who’s the one who’s always on the phone until 1 or 2 am and disturbing other’s people’s sleep?”
Also, what did she mean by call girl?
Tiffany and her were both welcoming ladies of the club. They did not do any shameful transactions!
“So what? I don’t want to make calls today and I want to sleep early. Is that my fault?” Tiffany rolled her eyes.
Megan pointed at her. Her fingers were trembling. “You were still playing with your phone when we came in!”
“I got tired of playing on my phone. I was about to put down my phone to go to sleep when you guys came back and made such a ruckus.” Tiffany scoffed. “What I want is very simple. Apologize for what you did. Just give me a 90-degree bow, it’s not that hard.”
Megan became speechless by her zero sense of shame.
